Home 9 Agape Incarceration Ministry

The Agape Incarceration Ministry meets downtown at the Durham County Jail each Saturday morning from 8:45-10:00. We pray with the inmates and read the Bible. Sometimes they just need a listening ear, so we talk with them. We accept their prayer requests, which we share at our Wednesday evening Prayer Meeting. Our Incarceration Ministry is in partnership with St. Philips Episcopal Church.

We are recruiting willing workers in this ministry. We are in dire need of volunteers who are willing to visit inmates on any Saturday mornings when you are available.  Many of you are natural encouragers, and these brothers and sisters are in low places in their lives and need you. Many of you have the faith that can see any problem or situation through until the end. That faith is needed, because there is a young sister who has lost everything that needs you. If you are blessed with the gift of service, our ministry needs you. For those of us who are mature in life with the gift of wisdom, a young brother needs your guidance.

We also provide Bibles, greeting cards, and reading materials to the inmates. Check your bookshelves… you probably have a lot of religious and/or inspirational literature that you will never read again! We are in need of this type of literature to share with inmates in the Durham County Jail. Items may be placed in the mailbox of Tim Coles located in the church library. If items are too large for his mailbox, please put Tim’s name on the boxes or bags and leave on the table under the window in the library. Your contributions may lead someone to Christ!

“Whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do for me.”  (Matthew 25:40)
